Hi,
this would be a nice feature, unfortunately there are some complications:
- We use the API to Joomla to create this type of field, and Joomla does not provide for a maximum length.
- In the case of field with HTML editor the character's count it would be very complex.

So, we will add this on our TODO list but we can't include this feature in next release :(
