Before I purchased Easy Profile, I asked if it was possible to continue using the Joomla in and use the Easy Profile "avatar" function as an addition to the Joomla profile. I was told (in the pre-sales forum) that it was possible.

I installed easy profile esterday but have been unsuccessful in setting it up the way I want.

Site registration is a maual process. Each user must meet requirements that are hand checked.. the user profile developed does not allow the user to change his name, userid, or email address.

I need to delete the Easy Profile that is currently displayed and do one of two things:

(1) add the avatar function to the Joomla Profile

or

(2). Substitute Easy Profile but 'lock' those fields users are not allowed to change. Easy Profile would not be visible to the user until he chooses "Profile" from the login screen.

My preference is for option one: allow the avatar option to appear within the existing profile. If that is not possible, then option #2.

Can you help?

Hi,
sorry but I not understand you question, why you cannot setup Easy Profile?

I asked if it was possible to continue using the Joomla in and use the Easy Profile "avatar" function as an addition to the Joomla profile. I was told (in the pre-sales forum) that it was possible.
Yes, and this is correct, as I said "Easy Profile extends Joomla user management (not replace), so pages like registration and edit profile are the same of Joomla with many improvements (like tabs)".

Site registration is a maual process. Each user must meet requirements that are hand checked.
This is something that Joomla already do, if you want manual registration (from backend)
- Go to Users->Manage->Options and set "Allow user registration" parameter to "No"
if you want to approve registered profiles:
- Go to Users->Manage->Options and set "Allow user registration" parameter to "Yes"
- Go to Users->Manage->Options and set "New User Account Activation" parameter to "Administrator"

the user profile developed does not allow the user to change his name, userid, or email address.
As I said reply in presales question:
Userid: Joomla not allow to change this
Username: this is something that Joomla do, go to Users->Manage->Options and set "Change Username" parameter to "No"
Email: you can set "Readonly" mode in Components->Easy Profile->Email address (field)->Common Parameters (tab)->Readonly (parameter)

add the avatar function to the Joomla Profile
Of course Easy Profile do this.

At this time, the only option from Easy Profile I would like to use is the avatar function.
Follow these steps:
- Install Easy Profile
- Go to Components->Easy Profile->Options (button at top right)
- Disable all other features to have Joomla normal form:
In General Settings section:
- Set "Visibility Profiles" to "Private" (like Joomla)
In Core Fields section:
- Set "Name Style" to "Only Name" (like Joomla)
- Set "Show "Confirm email" field" to "Yes" (like Joomla)
In Layout section:
- Set "View the form in tabs" to "No" (tabs are disabled)

Now you should have same behavior of Joomla (except for avatar feature)

Thanks for the follow-up.

I followed your directions and was able to get the basic profile established.

I have two changes that I need help with:

[1] concerning the email fields. My preference is to hide them, but if that is not possible, then make the fieldfs read only
[2] add the avatar feature.

Hi,
1) sorry this is not possible, because email is required by Joomla.

Hi,
1 email. I understand joomla requires it. I do not want the users to be able to change it. Changes to email address are done by the site administrator. Can the email fields be made "read only"?

Yes you can continue to edit profiles (and email) from backend

2 The Avatar feature does not appear in the profile. Looking at the settings, it appears to be active but not required. I'n sure I made a mistake trying to set it up on my own

done ;)

Try to check if all is configured as you want.

I appreciate all the help you gave me getting this all set-up. I have two areas that I still need help with:

1. Even after a user adds an avatar it doesn't display next to posts. The file "no avatars in posts" shows what I'm talking about. I've checked with Joomla side of the house; they didn' see anything from their side. Do you have something you can do to ensure the avatars appear in the posts area?

2. I have switched to JCE for my word processor. [File default as jce]. I have the default in the site's global settings configured doe JCE, The file [user profile] confirms the user's individual profile is set to "use default". The users, however, continue to see TinyMCE [file = TincyMCE instead of default JCE]. Is there something in Easy Profile that I need to change?

thanks again

Hi,
you have not configured well EasyDiscuss

1) Avatar: You need to download and install our Jomsocial Bridge and enable integration with Jomsocial in EasyDiscuss configuration at Components->EasyDiscuss->Settings->Layout->Avatars (http://docs.easy-profile.com/index.php/article/integration-easydiscuss)

2) Editor: you can set this in Components->EasyDiscuss->Settings->General->Composing (EasyDiscuss not allow to inherit editors from user/joomla configuration).

Thanks for your help. I've followed the directions you sent regarding my users avatars appearing when they post. Unfortunately, I'm still doing something wrong. The user's avatars are still not appearing when my users post. I have added a registered user account and put the details in my site info. You can change any info you want in the account. I use it for trouble shooting.

Thanks for your help help
