I am wondering if there are any guides or lessons learned for how to organize a social network site. My concern is primarily ease of use for the user. I am going to use this for a small non-profit. We have 4-6 sub committees that oversee different areas and then some items that the main board promotes. Would the Sub Committees and Board become Groups or Categories? Is there a way to restrict admin functionality to specific Groups/Categories once they are setup?

Thanks

No sorry.

I think the best way is to use Groups, but this depends of your real needs, for example:
- In groups all group's members can add content, and you can choose admins.
- In categories you can allow limit roles that can be add content (you can choose this from Admin Panel->Category Manager->Choose category->Permission Tab)

Please take also a look to Role permissions at Admin Panel->Role Manager->Choose role->Permission Tab

Hi Michael729,
No sorry, this is not possible. You can create a role that includes rights of 2 roles and assign this new role, for example I can have 2 roles like:
Role1 - Blog Authors - These users can write blogs but they does not have permission to write topics
Role2 - Topic Authors - These users can write topics but they does not have permission to write blogs
I can create another role like:
Role3 - Blog & Topic Author - These users can write topics and blogs
