Resolved One search field for multiple fields

Hi Guys,

A while ago i asked for the option to have one search field for all fields.
If it is already possible please let me know!

Now i still need to add many search fields to let users search for, firstname, lastname, hobby's and stuff.
Even the first name and last name in different fields... that is not user friendly ;-)

I would love it if i can add a field and choose what fields that one search field wil search in.

Is this already possible or have you any idea when it will be possible?
I think this is a really important feature for the user friendlyness of searching through all fields with one searchform.

Sorry for late reply, it's night for us

Unfortunately we have rejected this feature

for 2 reasons:
1. Easy Profile is mainly a profiler extension (not directory component)
2. With actual table structure is not possible to make in a efficient way something like this.

The biggest issue is search on name that it is the only first name. Thats just not good. Those two should at least be one.

I do not sea a reason why a profile system does not need a universal search field.

For me there is no Question about wether it is more user friendly or not.
It is definitely a function that makes a profile system better to search.
So it feels like a technical issue, i think that should not be the reason to not make something (:

I used universal ajax search on community builder and i do not have to thing about what i want to search. Just go.

So i think It is great to have an extra option in the search place that says: add universal search and you can choose a multiple text fields to search in should be fantastic!

You can search by "Formatname", it basically search into Joomla name, and Joomla name is composed by firstname, secondname, lastname.

About this feature
Of course we want to make Easy Profile the better profile extension for Joomla, but keep in mind that we sell our product (it is not Free), then we are morally obliged to provide reliable and quality products. A search like this is very slow if you include fields like checkbox, radio or select, the workflow for these fields should be:
- Get all options from fields table and parse it (are stored into JSON format)
- Translate each option of each fields (text of various options is translatable)
- For each options of each fields you need to compare translation with values
- Build a query

Like now the workflow is simple:
- (Only) Build a query

We do not want to add a Good feature with Bad way.

I used universal ajax search on community builder and i do not have to thing about what i want to search

Mean universal ajax live search from offlajn? if yes then you can ask to developer to add also integration with Easy Profile.
