Txs Russel,

Strangely enough, your message appears as "Content Protected" and can't be read on the forum itself.
(besides: are you the Russel who wrote in JCM this month?)

Why can we not see answers to this question? The radio silence from the team who produced this world class component is infuriating.

I have sadly already had to move on and find other solutions, but keep popping back 1/month to see out of curiosity if things move again

Moved over myself to membership Pro for J4. I still have two clients on Easy Profile which I can delay moving to J4.

It does everything I need, but I do miss the fantastic Skeleton plugin which was very powerful

I guess: Never!

I have been using EP for years and I was waiting for so many months for a J4 compatible version like so many of us here.
But: Sad to see the developer seems not to care about us as well as not about EP anymore. We don’t get any information on this for months! No news, no announcements etc. Even in this forum there is silence. This is not the way to treat paying customers.

I myself have given up and moved away from EP. There are other solutions out there that have the functionality of EP. Besides that, J4 custom fields can cover a lot already and since J4.2 they finally are searchable.

Does searching in custom fileds really work on one of your 4.2 sites? I have this problem on any of my client sites and on 4.2 it still does not work. Hopefully i missed something and it might do the job with a snap of a checkbox :-)

And @all
Unfortunately it seems that EP and ES does not make the move to 4.X as it is so silent around it. I loved it for years and now also have to move on as i need a social plugin that is lightwaited for a upcomming project.

Best regards
Carsten

«Content protected» is an old issue in this forum and still not fixed.

Posting URLs will cause this. Even using emoticons will do so, because they are loaded from an external source = they use an URL.

Here is a post about it:
support/joomla-4-joomla-3-10-compatibility/?start=50#reply-29393

Of course, you need to add the domain name easy-profile . com in front of it (if I do so here it will be content protected…).

Here are the URLs I have posted in post #9 (hopefully they will not make my post content protected):
/category/clients-a-communities/
/category/clients-a-communities/communities/
/category/e-commerce/membership-a-subscriptions/

You need to add the domain name in front of it: extensions.joomla . org

You are right, it does not work yet in 4.2. It was cancelled by the developers in last minute and is now scheduled for 4.3.

HI Joecan-

Easy Profile is much more than just custom fields. That is the problem. They enable complex conditions, allow for adding users to groups (or removing them), and let's not forget their incredibly easy to customize directory and the ability to filter or search for users using any field both on the front end and on the back end. Advanced Custom Fields is not really a replacement.

I just wish the developers would give us some kind of update, even if it is a definitive "Not gonna happen" so that we know that we have to come up with a different solution. I am very worried for my clients' websites, as I have some pretty complex integrations going with Easy Profile.

I switched to Community Builder for two of my cliënts. Also used UKR Solutions component "Import Users to Community Builder from Excel/CSV".

Also explored using RSFormsPro (using the account creation plugin). It works, but not a real integration between Joomla account (processes) and the RS Forms records.

Just to clarify. Easy-Profile is NOT Joomla 4 compatible!

Also, there are NO known plans or release dates for J4 compatibility.

A review of the above post reveals the following alternatives:

- Community Builder - Joomlapolis
- Advanced Custom Fields - Tassos
- UKR Solutions

I've been a member here for a good while. Full disclosure: I've had to develop my own Joomla extensions, though not for profit, just for my own projects.

[begin rant]

What's happening here is what is happening in the greater Joomla extension community - namely, a LOT of third party developers (3PDs) have just completely folded or otherwise now focus on other platforms. I've seen some of the backstage shenanigans, and have to say I do not blame those developers one bit for leaving Joomla. The project is notorious for making big changes to the API and other parts of the code, with little to no regard for third-party developers, keeping them in a perpetual state of beta. Instead of being able to improve their products while doing incremental updates to the Joomla core (you know, like a sane project would allow you to do), they have to fix what the Joomla updates break.

Mind you, there is no code migrator tool, at least not one that I can find, that translates at least the older standard core code into the newer APIs. Joomla team's attitude is just, "oh well, tough". Just like some major 3PDs begged Joomla to NOT force Bootstrap down developers' throats - even I knew that was a disaster - they also asked for incremental changes and an actual timetable so that they would know when these changes were coming and what was specifically affected.

I've been with Joomla since its Mambo days, went through the pain of the split, Joomla 1.5, then 2.5... then Joomla!3, all the while dealing with poor migration strategies, broken extensions (many popular ones were lost along the way), and now with this latest iteration templates AND extensions are affected. And no, telling people "it's coming" is not the same as having a coherent strategy for actually helping those who use Joomla to get ready for whatever "it" is.

But then, who cares about those scrubby users and non-core developers? It's not like they matter. /s (sarcasm meter on high)

So while I do indeed understand the frustration of customers who purchase these extensions, the real ire should be turned on the Joomla development team who has zero respect for those who make the extension that actually make Joomla popular.

And they wonder why Joomla has effectively lost to WordPress. (Don't get me started - I would rather eat glass than have to deal with the code from THAT platform. Their pain is coming too, and it will be FAR worse than this. At least Joomla dealt with the PHP upgrades over time - WordPress STILL has procedural code in its core. Yeah... it's gonna get NASTY.)

[rant over]

I too will keep watching this project. If it doesn't work out, there are other CMS platforms that I can migrate to. Personally, Joomla still holds a special place, probably due to fond memories from those headier early days where developers and serious hobbyists really made magic happen, but I cannot allow sentiment to cloud judgment. Perhaps it's time for me to leave as well.

@mpmanager
i think you are in many parts right with your analyse and as well with that factor of sentiment that tied me also to joomla since mambo days. The problem is if you build more then a wordpress blog like webiste and especially if it is for a client and not yourself. This causes so much trouble if i sell a function to my client and the plugin it highly relates to gets out of order because of any circumstance we often don´t know exactly - but you mentioned some reasons. After swimming with the mouth wide open in an ocean the next wave of PHP updates or Joomla version fills that mouth and the website drowns. But i had some clients that argued that they bought a product from me - you understand?
So i know the contraversional thinking about that cycle that happens all the time in that fast moving area of development..
I would be interested to hear what other CMS systems you would prefer with a better management of the mentioned problems? I came from mambo to all versions of joomla, took a short side part to wordpress (which in my experience better should be named worsepress), went a wile with drupal and came back to joomla for most of my projects. But i´m curious to learn what other, easy to handle systems are out there i came not across. Thanks for all your answers out there and perhaps if somebody has already transitioned to another plugin this information would also be apriciated

Hello.
Indeed, it’s not difficult to transfer fields to custom fields in Joomla.
Displaying fields depending on the values of other fields in J4/5 are implemented by the showon parameter.
A problem arose about how to implement the functionality of changing user groups depending on field values.

Has anyone solved this problem?

Not a straigt forward solution but...
Acymailing is going to release a feature that the usergroups can be changed with automation.
That could mean that you could change usergroups depending on fields with acymailing.
